If there are any Australian twitter users who read this blog/newsletter, this edition is written with you in mind. This past week, the Twellow development team launched a new tier to its area for helping find local users, based on their geographic location, called TwellowHood.

Up until just recently, TwellowHood only included North America and Canada. Now, this great service includes the southern island-continent of Australia! Go take a look!

This awesome new Australian search tool contains the following states and territories:

  • Australian Capital Territory
  • New South Wales
  • Northern Territory
  • Queensland
  • South Australia
  • Tasmania
  • Western Australia
  • Victoria

If you are reading this from another country that is not the U.S., Canada, or Australia, don’t fret! The Twellow development team is diligently working to make TwellowHood available for every country across the globe.

If you have any questions regarding Twellow, please feel free to contact their support department. They would happy to answer any questions that you may have regarding this awesome Twitter user directory service.

Category Spotlight: Technology

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

As requested by one of our frequest WebProNews eBusiness Directory users, I would like to take this opportunity to bring our directory’s category of Technology to your attention.

In today’s work force, the use and visibility of technology in business/e-business is a-must for staying current and also for staying ahead of your competitors. With this in mind, we have provided a list of quality and dependible resources to help achieve your business’ technology needs. These resources have been categorized by the following niches:

  • Information Technology – Resources for IT, including security, system administration, databases, etc.
  • Internet Services Providers – Find listings for Internet Service Providers around the world.
  • Mobile Computing – Find the resources you are looking for regarding wireless and mobile computing.
  • Software – Find all of the software and software resources you need for your online business.
  • Technology Blogs – Blogs dedicated to the technology industry from experts who live in it.
  • …and many more content-rich technology resources for you to take advantage of!

Do you own/know of a business that would like to contribute to the various resources of our Technology category? If so, please do not hesitate to submit your business’ website(s) to be listed in this helpful category. Submission to our directory is completely free and can be done on our directory’s submission page. We would love to include your technology-related website within our listings!

Our Directory + Shortened URLs = No Inclusion

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Recently, I noticed a vast majority of submissions that have been sent to the WebProNews eBusiness Directory were submitted with a shortened URL service (e.g. TinyURL, Bit.Ly, etc.). When submitting this type of URL, these are great for social media sites like Twitter, but it unfortunately will not be published within our directory listings, even though the content of your website perfectly fits the specific category.

I have listed some reasons below why this type of URL is not recommended for submitting–not just to our directory, but others as well.

  1. It does not reflect the full URL of your business’ website. If your business has a top-level domain (e.g. http://www.billscraftshop.com/), don’t be afraid to hide it, because it truly reflects and promotes your business’ name.
  2. This type of URL is not mnemonic. If someone is browsing through our directory and wants to remember one of the resources that he/she has seen in our listings, it is easier/better for them to remember the business’ exact URL, and not the alpha-numeric shortened URL.
  3. If your business’ website URL changes to a different domain name, the shortened URL will not reflect this change and will result in a dead link.

With this in mind, if you have recently submitted a shortened URL of your business to our directory, I would highly recommend resubmitting your business’ website’s actual URL to us through our quick-and-easy submission page for pending inclusion in our human-edited, quality directory.

While you are submitting your business’ website(s), please review this public service announcement from WebProNews:

Happy Submitting! :)
