Technical Difficulties and a Security Directory

Friday, August 15th, 2008

We are experiencing some technical difficulties with the eBusiness Directory (and many of our other directory sites) this morning.

It is out of my control, but hopefully our tech staff will have it back up and running very soon.

By the way, look for a SecurityProNews directory to come in the near future, where you will be able to find an abundance of resources related to information security and IT issues.

Check the eBusiness Directory again a little bit later today, and it should be back to normal.

We apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you!

UPDATE: Technical Difficulties Over. Please enjoy the eBusiness Directory!

R.I.P. Jonathan Brandis

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Did you know that actor Jonathan Brandis is dead? He has been since 2003 when he hung himself. I remember hearing about it back then, but apparently many people did not realize it.

Since I’ve been working on FamousDeadDB, I’ve come to realize that his death was not really common knowledge. In fact, his page has gotten so many views that he has been propelled to the top of the most popular actors list (based on pageviews).

I’ve been learning a lot myself working on this thing. Like for example that Dudley Moore is also dead. Was this common knowledge too? I talked to a few other people about it and they didn’t know either.  I don’t think the deaths of Moore or Brandis were publicized too heavily.

Anyway, I’m still plugging away on FamousDeadDB, but I’m still working with the eBusiness Directory also. Of course yesterday I announced the new Site Search category, and I’m still going through all of the submissions every day.  I’m still open to new category suggestsions, so let them fly!

How About Site Search

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

OK, I have finally gotten around to adding that category.

Thank you for the suggestion John! I think it was a good one.

The new category is site search and can be found as a sub-category of Search. Here you will find applications that allow you to add internal search on your own site.

Like all the other categories, it should grow over time. Please feel free to submit your site if you offer a product in this category.

Enjoy the new category!

No New Category Yet, But Interested in the Famous Dead?

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Well, I didn’t get any feedback over the weekend suggesting what the next new category should be, so I guess I’ll have to reach that decision on my own. I do expect to add one this week. Probably in the next day or two.  I’m still open to suggestions if you have them.

I might as well take a moment to talk about that other project I’ve been working on (though not just me). It’s not really directory related, but some of you may still find it interesting.

A while back, iEntry bought a site called famousdeaddb.com. It is basically a site where you can go and learn about famous people who have died, how they died, and learn some other interesting facts about them that you may not have known.

When we bought it, there was a whole lot of work to be done on it, and believe me, there still is.

There was a very minimal number of listings on the site, but we are working on building it up to be as big as possible.

We’re trying to stay on top of all the latest deaths (such as the recent passing of both Isaac Hayes and Bernie Mac). There are many, many other famous people who have died in the past that still need to be added, and that will take some time to be completed.

The site is still very much a work in progress, but there is still a ton of interesting information on it, and the listings are growing every day, so check it out.

It may seem a little morbid at first, but it’s actually quite educational and for many of the people that are no longer with us, it is serving as kind of a tribute. Guestbooks are available on each listing where people can express what they feel about that person.
