Technical Difficulties

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

If you have tried to access the eBusiness Directory today, you may have had some trouble getting it to load. We are having some server issues, and the site has been going up and down.

Technical Difficulties

Our tech team is hard at work on correcting these issues, and it should all be back to normal soon, so if you are having problems, please be patient and try back later.

We apologize for any inconvenience, and for those worried about submissions, this is just a slight delay in the approval process, and regular approval will also resume shortly.

Search Bug Resolved

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

I ran across a rather critical blog post about our directory today questioning its usability. I’m glad I did too because it was pointed out that our search function was having problems.

The poster found that a search for search engine optimization produced results, but a search for simply “SEO” did not.  This was indication of a slightly bigger problem that the search feature was having in that it was not set up to retreive results for queries of three characters or less.

So for example, you would be out of luck searching for SEO or ASP or SQL. This problem has been corrected and one should have no problem finding results for such queries from this  point on.

I would like to also take this opportunity to encourage feedback on the directory, especially if problems are encountered, so we can correct them and keep it as useful as possible to the end-user – the people this directory was built for.

Another Day, Another Category

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Yesterday, a category was added for translation services. Now we have added another requested category (proof that we really do acknowledge your feedback).

The new category is Open Source, which contains a listing of resources for open source development as well as open source software downloads.

It contains sites like that of the Open Source Initiative and the Free Software Foundation, and links to open source programs from companies like Facebook, Microsoft, Adobe, Apple, etc.

Then there are resources for open source news, tutorials, and specific products.

I say this with each new category added, but this one too is young, and will grow to have many more listings in the future.

So open source enthusiasts, enjoy the category. Hopefully you’ll find some new resources to sink your teeth into.

This may eventually turn into a bigger category with sub-categories within it, but for now, you can find it withing the Software, Web Development, and Information Technology categories.

Translation is No Longer Lost!

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

We had some requests for a category dedicated to translation services, and those requests have now been met.

You gave us the feedback, and we are giving you the category. You can find it as a sub-category under Research.

It contains not only translation services from companies that provide such, but also quick tools you can use yourself, though these are not always 100% accurate, which is why good old-fashioned human translators are still valuable resources.

Like other categories, we expect this one to grow significantly as it gets older.

Many languages are included within these listings.
